Tornarem a lluitar,tornarem a sofrir ,tornarem a Vncer !!
In our travels, my three companions and I have had what we call "Bryant Park" moments, recalling the time when we turned an extra corner in New York and found something hidden away and stunning. El Fossar de la Pedrera was so moving as to redefine the whole category. Its quiet, flat lawn, covering a mass grave surrounded by old quarry walls, gave me one of the most spiritual moments I have ever experienced as a traveler. Despite its respectful silence it shouts very loudly of the terror and criminality of the Franco regime, yet at the same time brings back to memory the names of persons who were intended to be forgotten. If we had tried to get to El Fossar by the most direct route we would not have arrived, because the gate immediately adjacent to it was closed and locked. Instead, we took a fortunate wrong turn and ended up walking through the entire Montjuic Cemetery, with its Manhattan-like canyon walls of cemetery crypts and endless switchbacks on the road through it. But this turned out to be a special bonus, and well into our lengthy walk we discovered pedestrian staircases and other shortcuts. However, the signage to El Fossar itself, located at the west end of the cemetery, is poor to nonexistent until you are very near to it.Take your vitamins before setting out on foot to find this (you can also get close to it by car). We took a taxi to the Joan Miro museum and after a few hours there, walked past the Olympic area and took a left turn to the main cemetery entrance. Our visit to El Fossar preceded another long walk, thru an industrial and commercial area rarely visited by taxis. After that, a bus driver was kind enough to make change from his own pocket so we could ride to the Plaa d'Espanya. Not bad for the 60+ age category, verdad?
